Dr. Ho-Chih Lin was trained as a quantum physicist. He holds an MSc and a PhD from University College London and an MSc from London School of Economics and Political Science. His PhD thesis explored an alternative approach to investigate and quantify quantum entanglement, the most intriguing aspect of quantum mechanics but also the phenomenon that makes quantum computation possible. His Masters dissertation centres on a real-life application of open innovation, particularly focusing on the influence of the design and organization of the project on group dynamics and the resulting effects on the diversity and quality of ideas generated.

He came to know Tipping Point North South through the Tipping Point supported film We Are Many feature documentary about the global anti-Iraq war movement, directed by Amir Amirani and on which he was an Associate Producer.  This project led to his closer involvement with TPNS’s military spending work and he led on the development of its ‘Five Percent Formula for cuts to global military spending. This in turn led to the creation of the Transform Defence project, where he leads on all research & related social media.  He is the lead author of a number of Transform Defence reports including Indefensible: the true cost of the global military to our climate and human security, analysing the climate impact of the global military and described by Professor Neta Crawford of the Cost of War Project as “essential reading for all those concerned with climate change and the path to a sustainable and secure future.”

Ho-Chih was born and raised in Taiwan, moving to London to pursue his academic career.
