WEEK ONE @COP28
MILITARY EMISSIONS & MILITARY SPENDING EVER MORE PRESENT
It is clear at this COP28 that Israel’s war on Gaza is bringing climate activism ever closer to the myriad ways in which military spending is a major obstacle to climate justice.
As we end our first week at COP28,here is a brief listing of the varied coverage of our latest report ‘Climate Crossfire’ as we pursue our efforts to get military spending into the climate finance frame.
As part of their COP28 coverage, Amy Goodman and Democracy Now invited Deborah Burton on to talk about ‘Climate Crossfire’ as well as the war on Gaza.
We look forward to building on this coverage as we go into week two.

Divert military spending to fund climate aid, activists urge Cop28

Conflict, peace and Palestine make an impression at COP28
“Since COP26 in Glasgow, there have been efforts to collectively raise the issue of military spending and emissions on this platform, which is slowly making progress,” said Deborah Burton, co-founder of Tipping Point North South, an organisation working at the intersection of demilitarisation and climate change. “The invasion of Ukraine is when the world, and especially the media, could see the climate impact of conflict. Now we are seeing it in Gaza.”
